Our sponsored darts player, Adrian Lewis began the year with a strong performance at the Unibet Darts Masters in Milton Keynes, where he achieved victory over Kim Huybrechts and Robert Thornton. Lewis had a fantastic run through to the semi-finals but unfortunately lost out to world number one Michael van Gerwen.
But things are not slowing down for Lewis, and he is aiming high for 2017 with the Betway Premier League just around the corner. Lewis will meet Raymond van Barneveld (affectionately known as ‘Barney’) on Thursday 2nd Feb at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, as he bids to get the competition off to a strong start.
Adrian said: “I love playing Barney and we’ve had some crackers over the years so I’m looking forward to it.”
The Betway Premier League will run from February 2nd to May 18th 2017 on successive Thursday nights in arenas across the UK, Ireland and Netherlands. At last season’s Premier League, Lewis became part of an elite group of players to achieve a nine-darter during a win over James Wade in Belfast. Does he think he can achieve this again?
“The nine-darter was special and they always are.” said Adrian. “It would be fantastic to do it again.”
Ten opponents will battle it out over the four-month long tournament, up until ‘Judgement Night’ at the end of March, where the bottom two players will be eliminated. The remaining eight will then compete to win spots in the Play-Offs in May. Is Adrian feeling confident?
“I think I’m going to have a good year.” Adrian concludes. “I’ve got to take the rough with the smooth and enjoy it. But my aim is to be 100 percent.”
We’ll be keeping you posted on Adrian’s progress throughout the tournament.
